The Road to Chattanooga
Like many cities with an industrial past, changing times once threatened to leave Chattanooga behind. But the city's leadership and citizens chose to restore, reinvest and reinvent. That continuing focus on sustainability has resulted in development projects and new jobs. And Volkswagen is proud to be at work and home in Tennessee.
Volkswagen Group of America is already a leader in green investments, offering low-consumption, low-emission technologies for the road today, with the goal of carbon-neutral mobility for tomorrow. We continuously improve production processes to maximize sustainability and minimize environmental impacts.
As part of our effort to manufacture more products locally, the Volkswagen Group assembly plant in Chattanooga, Tenn., will begin production in 2011. The $1 billion energy-saving facility with an annual capacity of 150,000 vehicles will produce a new mid-size sedan designed for the United States; 30 percent will be powered by Volkswagen's TDI Clean Diesel technology. Recognized two years in a row with the Green Car of the Year Award, our TDI Clean Diesel vehicles deliver smarter fuel efficiency, uniquely low CO2 emissions and uncompromising performance.
The new Chattanooga assembly plant will create even more green growth with investments in:
Jobs and economic development
Educational partnerships
Community support
Environmental protection
