Volkswagen Group Worldwide
Volkswagen Group of America is part of the global Volkswagen AG company, headquartered in Wolfsburg, Germany. Volkswagen AG is one of the world’s leading automobile manufacturers, the largest carmaker in Europe, and currently the third-largest automaker in the world.
In 2010, the Group sold more than 7 million vehicles in more than 153 countries, corresponding to an 11.3 percent share of the world passenger car market. We operate 62 production plants in 21 countries. Our more than 400,000 employees produce about 30,000 vehicles or are involved in vehicle-related services.
The Group is made up of nine brands: Volkswagen, Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, SEAT, Škoda, Scania and Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles. Each brand has its own character and operates as an independent entity on the market.
Our corporate goal, known as Strategy 2018, is to position the Volkswagen Group as a global economic and environmental leader among automobile manufacturers. We aim to get there by:
- using intelligent innovations and technologies, while delivering customer satisfaction and quality
- increasing unit sales to more than 10 million vehicles a year over the long term, with an above-average share as the major growth markets develop
- boosting return on sales before tax to at least 8% in the long term to safeguard our solid financial position and ability to take action, even during difficult market periods
- becoming the top employer across all brands, companies and regions; in order to build a first-class team
Volkswagen AG’s far-sighted and practical commitment to sustainability is one of the hallmarks of our corporate culture. We have shared our progress on an annual basis since 1995. The print version of our Sustainability Report is published every two years. The key indicators, however, are updated annually on the Internet.
Volkswagen AG has always subscribed to a policy of Corporate Social Responsibility, long before it was a buzzword in the business news. At all Volkswagen Group locations worldwide, we give back to the community by helping support social development, culture and education and promoting health, sports and nature conservation. We take care of our employees, and we know that our responsibility to people does not end at the factory gates.
For example, Volkswagen has been active in South Africa for 60 years. Our production site in Uitenhage is the largest private employer in the Eastern Cape Province. We have long been engaged in the socio-economic transformation of the country, including the ending of apartheid. And today, we are highly committed to and involved in the ongoing fight against the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
